Garnto
says, "I love
to resurrect an
object from it's
death and give
it a new life,
a second chance
if you will, it's
hard to explain.
I feel a connection
to these objects
that I come in
contact with.
The connection
I feel as I use
these objects
is like therapy.
My path with a
learning disability
has led me to
work in this manner.
My work with collage
intentionally
manipulates the
audience's ability
to comprehend
what it is I'm
saying. I purposely
blur words and
phrases to impart
to the audience
the frustration
I have dealt with
every day. I have
found a connection
between expressive
mark making, found
object, collage,
and a conceptual
cryptic sort of
abstract thought
process. These
combinations working
together in one
piece enable me
to express myself
to the viewers
through my art
along with my
learning disability.
I want my art
to draw you in,
to ignite your
interest, and
to make you think.
It is the participation
in the thought
process that will
lead you to the
inner discovery
of it's many possible
meanings." Garnto
consistently manifests
a desire to experiment.
His
attitude to the
established norms
of whatever genre
he is working
in aids his ongoing
search for new
forms of expression
in art. This way
of thinking has
made him a favorite
among collectors
of mixed media
collage.
