Sculpture

Al’s only formal training in sculpture started in 1992 when he was an art major at Young Harris College. Al had been drawing and painting ever since he was old enough to hold a pencil, but it was at YHC that he had his first real exposure to working in three-dimensional design and sculpture. Al adds, “When I attended YHC I had the blessing of studying under a man that was head of the art department - Dick Aunspaugh. I had him for oil painting, drawing, three-dimensional design, sculpture, art appreciation, art history, and visional theory. This was the most inspiring art teacher and person I have ever met in all my art studies. Mr. Aunspaugh forever changed the way I viewed the world and what I though art was. I learned from him that when you learn to look at the world differently…it becomes a different world.”

While at Young Harris College , Al’s art and sculpture won several awards. His ability to express himself proficiently in such a wide range of media lead him to receive one of the largest art scholarships offered in the United States - the Presidential Scholarship to attend the Atlanta College of Art. In 1994 Al attended the Atlanta College of Art and was a double major in painting and sculpture. For more about Al’s life go to his bio.
